I discovered last week just how wise this advise was when another friend of mine also running two drives caused a problem with the first drive, which corrupted the data on the second drive - all gone!!!! Some how the disk had partitioned itself and would not recognise the second partition where the majority of the data was stored.īy backing up to CD you will have the most widely recognisable data storage and could use just about any machine to retrieve data from CDs. However, I was advised to use CDs instead, because they are inherently better protected against the whims of the computer!! My original intention was to get a much larger second HD installed in a removable case (like a removable car radio) to do exactly as you suggested. I use it as temporary storage when burning CDs, to avoid buffer errors which used to occur at high speed burning when retrieving data from my main hard drive. The second hard drive is an old 3Gb disk taken from a friend's machine when it got a lightening strike and burnt up the motherboard. I have been running 2 hard drives for a while.
